{"id":2015,"date":"2015-08-11T16:01:39","date_gmt":"2015-08-11T16:01:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.beer-syndicate.com\/blog\/?p=2015"},"modified":"2017-03-30T17:37:53","modified_gmt":"2017-03-30T17:37:53","slug":"strange-brews-odd-things-to-add-to-your-beer-that-actually-work","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/beersyndicate.com\/blog\/strange-brews-odd-things-to-add-to-your-beer-that-actually-work\/","title":{"rendered":"Strange Brews: Odd Things to Add to Your Beer <em>That Actually Work<\/em>"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">By now, you\u2019ve probably seen beers being served with garnishes like orange slices (Blue Moon), lime wedges and salt (Corona), and maybe even a scoop of vanilla ice cream (Guinness).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But what would you say about a beer\u00a0served with roasted garlic, dill pickles, capers, cucumber, fresh cilantro, feta cheese, and avocado?<\/span><\/p><!--CusAds0-->\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">I know, I know.\u00a0 I forgot jalape\u00f1os.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Well at least one place in Tucson, Arizona has figured out how to make it work with downright\u00a0delicious results.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">Usually this is the part where fellow craft beer enthusiasts chime in with something about how a beer should stand on its own, or how adding anything to beer is a malicious act of pure unbridled blasphemy. \u00a0 And for the most part I agree.\u00a0 <em>Buuuut<\/em>, when your base beer happens to be BMC (Bud, Miller, Coors) or any other light lager (in this case it\u2019s Dos Equis lager), you\u2019re kind of working with a blank canvas to begin with. \u00a0Not to mention, BMC aren&#8217;t exactly considered craft beers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beersyndicate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beer-Cocktail-Menu.jpg\"><br \/>\n<\/a><a href=\"http:\/\/www.beersyndicate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beer-Cocktail-Menu.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-2035 size-full\" title=\"Beer Cocktail Menu at the Hotel Congress\" src=\"http:\/\/www.beersyndicate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beer-Cocktail-Menu.jpg\" alt=\"Beer Cocktail Menu at the Hotel Congress\" width=\"380\" height=\"540\" srcset=\"http:\/\/beersyndicate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beer-Cocktail-Menu.jpg 380w, http:\/\/beersyndicate.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/Beer-Cocktail-Menu-211x300.jpg 211w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 380px) 100vw, 380px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: 8pt;\">[The Hotel Congress is not only allegedly haunted, but is also the location of where John Dillinger, one of the most notorious bank robbers in U.S. history, was captured in 1934. \u00a0The hotel also serves one of the best breakfast menus in Arizona.]<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">To be fair, the beer cocktail that the Hotel Congress serves\u00a0has a bit of spiced tomato juice mixed\u00a0in with it, so the final product\u00a0is more of a pimped-out Michelada than anything else (you can even chose your preferred level of spiciness).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">But who\u2019s to say adding a salty dill pickle spear with a touch of cilantro wouldn\u2019t stand to improve a can of Natty Light or Milwaukee&#8217;s Beast?\u00a0 I bet adding an orange slice to a beer sounded a touch kooky once too.<\/span><\/p><!--CusAds0-->\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 12pt;\">And on that note, here\u00a0are a few other\u00a0easy-to-make beer blends\/beer cocktails that turn out pretty darn tasty (assuming you&#8217;re starting with a BMC-type beer). \u00a0Just remember to blend the proportions to your own liking:<\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Beergarita<\/strong><\/span>: Pour in a bit of your favorite margarita mix at a ratio of 1 part mix to 3 parts beer. Es perfecto.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Beermosa<\/strong><\/span>: Beer + OJ helps keep the scurvy away.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Homemade Diesel<\/strong><\/span>: Diesel is the name of a popular mixed drink in Germany which is simply a blend of beer and cola at a ratio of about 1 to 1. After adding cola to a light beer the resulting color kind of looks like, you got it, diesel.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>DIY Radler<\/strong><\/span>: A Radler is another German creation made by mixing about 50% citrus soda like 7 Up with 50% beer. In a pinch, you could probably get away with adding ANY type of soda pop to a light beer; just be brave and give it a try.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>American Shandy<\/strong><\/span>: Similar to the German Radler, simply blend in 1 part lemonade to 2-3 parts beer for a refreshing citrusy treat.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>7-Second Fruit Beer<\/strong><\/span>: Add any type of fruit juice to a light beer and presto- instant fruit beer.<\/li>\n<li><span style=\"text-decoration: underline; font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Tea Beer<\/strong><\/span><strong>:<\/strong> Tea-baggin&#8217; has never been more fun!
